The first two days of last week I was out on delicious holidays. After that I played the post-vacation catch-up, phone calls, paying bills, etc.

I also spent time moving planning for the summit ahead (mostly focused on sponsors) and then started examining new ways to host our mailing lists elsewhere. It really seems that keeping our mailing lists in Mailman would be the simplest, since the other alternatives (google groups -> spam, librelist -> great for new lists, sucky for old) all have some critical flaw that prevents us from adopting them. I'm trying to find a hosted mailman solution -- does anyone have experience with any mailman vendors? So far my inquires to a few companies have not been returned, which is not a good way to start a relationship. :(

This week should be a fairly normal week for me, but I'm out tuesday - friday next week for my own wedding celebration in Bologna. :)

This week I finally submitted one of my two schema change patches for October. Now that Ian is fairly advanced in name-dropping, I'll include both my ended changes and his name ones into the places work and go back to that.

Monday was a bank holiday so I didn't do anything on that day. The rest
of the week was spent looking at Chef provisioning/dist-upgrading all
the machines. As stuff didn't go too smoothly with lolo, I began by
packaging up a logster recipe, so we get more diagnostics mostly for
free. I then got asterix and lolo deployed with this. With this out of
the way and servers looking more stable, I continued to dist-upgrade
pingu, and finally performed a dist-upgrade on astro. We now have all
four frontends running Ubuntu 12.04, fully managed by our Chef configs.

Along the way, I tweaked some of our Graphite settings - tintin is now
provisioned via Chef (which is way simpler and means we have a more
up-to-date Graphite installation), and the collectd interval was lowered
to once a minute which takes a lot of load off tintin.

I finally got the RabbitMQ CAA-indexer deployed, and wrote pgq-proxy to
take events from PGQ and proxy them to RabbitMQ. This means that we can
get the benefits of the RabbitMQ indexer without having to touch the DB,
which is a win. This mostly went without problems, though the IA was
down most of the week. The final problems appear to have been resolved,
but I'm going to continue adding more diagnostics to this using
"gamekeeper" (queue size, etc).

- ollie

Hello,

Last week I was working on karma, user types and their limits, and it seems to be working fine on my local instance of the server. Unfortunately, the whole project will be delayed for a week, which is still not that bad since I had predicted this scenario in my schedule. New features will be available on the sandbox in a day.

Thanks,
mjjc

I spent my week working on _name tables (MBS-6068), assisting ollie with upgrades and keeping an eye on things while he was asleep, and a few other small things like installing new SSL certificates. Today's a holiday here, so I might not do much today other than the meeting, and perhaps some more fun projects like tinkering with graphite further.

In the last week I did a bunch of boring work trying to get the
existing release editor submission code (the "Wizard") to accept the
JSON document that the release editor now sends. Lots of nitty gritty
work in the controller parts of mbserver. Some good progress was made,
but nothing usable yet. I don't have as much time as I did a few weeks
ago for coding, but I'm pretty confident I can get this working soon!
